Yale tabs Jaguars assistant for historic hire

Jaguars assistant coach Tom Williams will make college football history today when he is named the Yale football coach. Williams, 39, will become the first black coach in Ivy League history. Although a Yale spokesman declined to confirm the hiring and said the university would have no comment until a news conference today, The Associated Press and several other media outlets reported that Williams was offered and accepted the job. Williams was somewhat of a long shot when the process started, but he moved up the charts when Don Brown, the head coach at UMass, pulled out of the running read more

The documents include a statement by a man who told police he was with Hartsfield the night Collier was shot 14 times. In addition to leaving him paralyzed, the incident also resulted in one of Collier's legs being amputated. It's likely to be busy offseason for Del Rio

Midway through Jacksonville Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio's postseason press conference, he was asked about what good came out of the 2008 season.

Tough times, tough solution for the Jaguars

The Jaguars' season-ending news conference Tuesday dripped with the usual Jack Del Rio-isms such as "resolve", "smart," and "tough and physical." But in between the near-trite lines, Del Rio laid out a general plan to spark 2008's dud-of-a-club Jaguars back to postseason contention in 2009. "We went into the year with high expectations and didn't realize those expectations ... really didn't even come close to them," Del Rio said. "Certainly, accountability is something I believe in, and it has to start with me. read more

Jaguars take a closer look at what went wrong this season

While sifting through the wreckage of a star-crossed 5-11 season Monday, the Jaguars were seeking answers for what went wrong this year. Coach Jack Del Rio met briefly with the players and told them that they will be a smash-mouth football team next year and the players will have to buy into that from the first day of the offseason conditioning program. Several players agreed with that, but also suggested other problems, including a divided locker room and the issues of money and injuries. Jags stuck in reverse

BALTIMORE — The Jaguars' season-ending 27-7 loss to Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday unraveled in the second quarter when the Ravens exploded for three touchdowns.

Garrard proves to be an ironman

Garrard gets high marks for durability : David Garrard became Jacksonville's first quarterback to start all 16 games under Coach Jack Del Rio and the first Jaguars' signal-caller to answer the bell for all 16 games since Mark Brunell in 2000. Garrard was 14-for-25 for 127 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, but his season totals were better — 335-for-535 (62.6 percent), 3,620 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Garrard's first-quarter TD throw was the 51st of his career, tying him with Byron Leftwich for second in that Jaguars category. Brunell holds the franchise record (144 TD passes). Garrard had four rushing attempts Sunday for 40 yards and three first downs.

Knocked down to 5-11 … and that's the season

BALTIMORE - At some point, several stomachs on the Jaguars' sideline must have turned sour from swallowing everything shoved down its throat by the Baltimore Ravens' offense. Force-fed whatever Baltimore wanted to do, the Jaguars punched the clock on a miserable year Sunday by allowing three second-quarter touchdowns in a season-ending 27-7 drubbing at M&T Bank Stadium. "We just finished up a long, tough year," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "It's not all bad, but it's not good enough. We'll collect ourselves and look forward to 2009. read more
